Decatur Co. Wildlife Team Scores Big at National Event

Georgia 4-H's state-winning Wildlife Judging team from Decatur Co. represented us extremely well at the recent 4-H Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program National Contest in Zwolle, Louisiana, placing second in the event with Caleb Adkins earning high individual honors.  Congratulations to team members Garrett Christie, Cherise Dryden, Emily Ray, Caleb Adkins, and to volunteer coach Teresa Adkins for this outstanding showing.

This year’s second place finish marked the fifth time in the past 11 years Georgia has placed either first or second at the national WHEP contest.  Tennessee won this year’s event.

The contest which is held annually in different regions of the country attracted 62 participants and more than 32 coaches from 16 states. Participants judged wildlife habitat in the “Southeast Mixed and Outer Coastal Plains Forest" region using habitat evaluation skills they learned through their local 4-H Wildlife Judging training.

The 2009 state Wildlife Judging contest will be held on Saturday, November 7, at Rock Eagle 4-H Center.  Please contact Charlie Wurst at 706-542-8926, or cwurst@uga.edu, if you have any questions about the state contest.
