Spend four to six weeks hosting and visiting a student of the same age and gender for around $300 and the price of an airline ticket. Choose from a variety of countries. Deadline for the Summer of 2008 is November 15, 2007.
Georgia 4-H International Programs and Rotary Youth Exchange Georgia 4-H International Programs and Georgia representatives of the Rotary Youth Exchange program are partnering to offer international experiences to 4-H'ers and their families. Because Rotary is a highly respected, service minded organization with trusted contacts in countries all over the world, Georgia 4-H is endorsing the Rotary Youth Exchange as an excellent opportunity for 4-H'ers who are interested in participating in international experiences.
Jeff Buckley, the State Coordinator International & Citizenship Programs will be available to answer basic questions, gather and distribute information. It is important to note that this is not a Georgia 4-H program. This is a Rotary program that accepts 4-H involvement.
About Rotary Youth Exchange - Short Term Program
- Youth ages 15 - 18 at the time of the exchange are eligible.
- 4-H'ers will host a student from another country for 4 to 6 weeks. Then, the 4-H'er will spend an equal amount of time in the home of their exchange student. Exchanges should take place within the same year.
- There is no cost to host families beyond room, board and basic activities for the exchange delegate. You may host even if you don't plan to send your student to complete the exchange.
- 4-H'ers who plan to visit the exchange student they hosted, will be expected to pay approximately $300 in registration and insurance fees, plus airfare and spending money.
- Participating families must submit an application packet and pass Rotary International's screening process.
- Participants will be expected to attend a couple of local Rotary Club meetings, where they will discuss the program.
- Exchange students will be paired with a student of the same gender who is close in age.
- Participants may request youth from the following countries, and others: Brazil , Mexico , Thailand , Chile , Finland , Germany (You may not get your first choice, but you can list your preferences.)
