State Farm agent Stephanie Wallace presented the Georgia 4-H Foundation and the Georgia 4-H Youth Technology Leaership Team with a $25,000 check from the State Farm Youth Advisory Board on Feb. 23 at the University of Georgia as part of its observance of International Corporate Philanthropy Day. The Georgia 4-H Foundation plans to use the money to fund a computer project involving cyber-education through the use of a mobile lab that will improve access and information to underserved youth throughout the state of Georgia. Highlights of Accomplishments of State Farm Grant - As of October, 2009
-Technology Lab Purchased. 12 computers being formatted for team use.
-Cyberbullying Cybercitizenship Class taught at National Youth at Risk Conference in Savannah – 25 participants
-Cyberbullying class and basic Internet safety class prepared for Northwest Junior 4-H Conference - 50 participants
-Taught Cyberbullying and Cybercitizenship workshop at National Children Youth and Families at Risk Confernence in Baltimore for 30 participants.
- The Technology Youth Leadership Team taught eight interactive workshops on CSI (Cyber Security Initiative) at Senior Leadership Camp ( for 4-H'ers in grades 9 - 12) at Wahsega 4-H Center. Several 4-H’ers who attended applied for and were accepted for membership on this years team. Four members of the team received partial scholarships to attend Senior Camp to teach. Classes were on Basic Internet Safety and Tracking down a Cyberstalker. Cheryl Varnadoe assisted the team with the workshops.
-Taught two all day workshops in Murray County at the new high school on Cyber Security Initiative including Basic Internet Safety and Cyberbullying. Reached an audience of 460 High school teens.
-Taught two all day workshops in Miller County and Worth County on Cyber Security Initiative including Basic Internet Safety and Cyberbullying. Reached audiences of 400 high school teens.
- In conjunction the Technology Youth Leadership team, taught Netsmartz workshop Titled “Don’t Horse Around with Internet Safety” at State 4-H Horse School in Perry, reaching an audience of 200 young people.
-Tech Team Retreat – Prepared tech team to lead classed on these subjects throughout the state and to conduct CSI programming. The team consists of 30 young people and collegiates
-Junior Conference – prepared classes for NW and NE Junior Spring conferences on Basic Internet Safety and Cyberbullying for Spring 2010.
-Taught Netsmartz workshop at Oglethorpe Farm Safety Camp. Every eighth grade student in the county attended the camp. Reached an audience of 200 youth.
- National Guard Training – Taught three workshops at National Guard Training in Atlanta in August to an audience of 75 adults on Netsmartz and Preventing Cyberbullying.
-Taught Basic Internet Safety to 225 Middle School Youth at Toombs County Middle School
-Taught Basic Internet Safety Class at National Service Learning Confernece in Washington, D.C.
- Taught "Don't Horse Around with Internet Safety "in Spalding County to 100 Youth
- Programs are booked throughout the fall, winter, and spring.
-Need-A-Computer project will be posted within the next few days for 4-H'ers to being applying for this year.
