The primary objective of Horse Quiz Bowl contests is to provide an opportunity for youth enrolled in 4-H to demonstrate their knowledge of equine-related subject matter in a competitive setting where attitudes of friendliness and fairness prevail. The contest will provide an education experience for both participants and spectators. A good opportunity for both 4-H'ers who own horses and those who do not.
Competition Guidelines:
Study and train to develop knowledge of equine-related subject matter. Each team shall consist of not less than four (4) or more than five (5) members. Only four (4) contestants shall be seated at the panel at any one time. During any match, one (1) team member only may be replaced at the panel when: The moderators deem it impossible for one of the seated members of the team to continue in the contest, or The captain of a team requests the replacement of a team member.The team member removed from a match becomes ineligible to return to that particular match. The team member removed and the replacement member are both eligible to participate in further matches. The use of a five-member team is strongly recommended. A county can bring up to two Senior and two Junior teams with 4 or 5, team members per team. Questions -- Each county participating must mail 25 questions to be used in the contest. Questions and correct answers shall be typed on the official form sent in the registration letter. Questions must come from the official sources only and must include the section and page number.

Four types of questions will be used. One type will consist of one-on-one questions to which a designated member of either team may respond. The second category of questions will be regular questions, to which any member of either team may respond.
The third category of questions will be toss-up questions, and also open for response by any member of either team. The only difference between a regular and a toss-up question will be that a toss-up will have a bonus question attached to each and, in general, will be somewhat more difficult than the regular questions. A bonus question will be worth a pre-determined 1-3 points, and all parts of the bonus question must be answered before any points will be awarded. No part of the bonus question will be repeated nor will any additional information be given to the contestants relative to the question.
Detailed information on Equipment, Officials and Procedure of Play will be mailed to all counties.
Two area contests will be held with top placing junior and senior teams advancing to state competition.
Awards & Recognition:
Each participant will receive an award card and a judging pin. The winning Junior and Senior teams will receive a plaque State Winning senior team (consisting of the top four team members from the county) will be eligible for Master 4-H'er status and participate in the recognition of Special Events Winners at State 4-H Congress. The banquet meal and lodging expenses will be paid for the team and coach; however, travel costs are not covered. The state winning senior team will represent Georgia at the 4-H Quiz Bowl in Louisville, KY.
